Advent is one of my favorite times of year. It gives true shape and meaning in the midst of the loony-ness of the excess and triteness of popular cultural “xmas.”
Over the last 4 Sundays we have looked at the Lord’s promise to come again, the great humbling of the Son of God in his incarnation (Phil. 2) , the work and ministry of angels and God’s word of life to the barren church (Is. 54). Advent helps me hear once again the good news that God comes to us in flesh.
“In adoring the birth of our Savior, we find ourselves celebrating our own nativity; for the birth of Christ is the birth of the Christian people, and the Christmas of the head is the Christmas of the body.” (Leo the Great)
That’s alot better than shopping at Walmart!
